Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Smart SAM is not receiving events from Smarts OI domain

Smarts OI domain events are not forwarding to Smarts SAM

Events are not being sent to Smarts SAM from OI

The following is seen in the log file:
[June 13, 2013 11:54:53 AM GMT+01:00 +664ms] t@1220778336 P-NGA-APM1-OI_NL-Driver-HyperNotif
ASL_MSG-*-ASLP-ics/ics-nl-processing.asl: eventType is MOMENTARY and deltaCount is zero, hence not incrementing the deltaCount to one

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The error message in the log file above suggests that the notification is not processed. This is because the deltaCount (difference between occurence count of SAM and OI) is zero, EventState is "WAS_ACTIVE" and eventType == "MOMENTARY".

If the old state is WAS_ACTIVE, that means this the notification was received solely due to reconnection to the underlying domain. This is to suggest that if the event type is MOMENTARY, the server always ignores any re-occurrences of an active notification that has occurred during the disconnected period.

Resolution

If you encounter this issue, set the SM_OCCURENCECOUNT=TRUE in the SmartsĀ runcmd_env.sh. If the event type is MOMENTARY and the SM_OCCURENCECOUNT=TRUE in the runcmd_env.sh, the SmartsĀ server will update the re-occurrences of an active notification that has occurred during the disconnected period. This notify event will just serve to confirm that the notification is still active in this domain. Smarts will still call for updates of any auto-actions and aggregates.
