Cannot connect to Smarts Broker; Process to bypass the broker and attach directly to a Smarts domain.

Issue/Introduction

Unable to connect to Smarts domains using the ./dmctl command line, the sm_adapter tool, or the Smarts GUI

The broker cannot be reached connected from a client host in order to connect to the Smarts domains that are running.

Environment

SMARTS - all supported versions

Cause

Network connectivity problems between the client host and the broker host make the broker to be unreachable.

The port that the broker communicates on, port 426 by default, is blocked by the firewall.

Resolution

In order to connect to a domain directly and bypass the Smarts broker the following methods may be used:

For CMD line based interfaces (DMCTL, sm_adapter, etc)

In the command line to connect to the domain specify the domains ip address or hostname, port, and domain name in in the -s option of the command in the format <hostname or IP>:<port>/<DOMAIN_NAME> 

For example to bypass the broker and connect to InCharge-AMPM on the host with IP address 1.2.3.4 on port 5555 for DMCTL commands the command would be:

./dmctl -s 1.2.3.4:5555/InCharge-AMPM

For Smarts Gui

Clear the broker field in the GUI log on screen and then enter the <hostname or IP>:<port>/<DOMAIN_NAME>.  For a domain InCharge-AMPM on host with IP address 1.2.3.4 using port 5555 the login screen would be filled in as follows:
