Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Despite setting EnableSTPMonitoring to TRUE in discovery.conf the field SNMPSTPStatus remains blank

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

STP node status is available through the following oid:

SNMPSTPStatus = "1.3.6.1.2.1.17.2.15.1.3"

Thats what the instrumentation class  STPNode_Fault  polls for. For the device in question when the oid is walked there is no value returned so smarts wont monitor STP Status

Resolution

If you believe there is an issue on the Smarts side please open a service request as it might be necessary to debug further or recertify the device

In this instance the issue was on the device side
