Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

User defined fields 1-4 have custom entries that are being overwritten when the Smarts SAM right-click maintenance tool is used.

When testing the schedule maint function from the right-click menu option, it is overwriting user defined fields 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The default Smarts SAM maintenance tool is overwriting key user-defined fields that are assigned for other purposes.

Resolution

To disable right-click maintenance in Smarts SAM, you can create a new user profile and remove access of that profile to scheduled maintenance. This is done as follows:

Step 1- Open the Notification Console in Smarts SAM:

Step 2- Select Configure > Global Manager Administration Console:

Step 3 - Right-click on User-Profile and select New User Profile from the menu:

Step 4 - Create a new user profile. To do this, enter an appropriate name for the new profile in the User Profile field ("No-Maint" is used in the example below),  and ensure that the Create New radio button is selected. Click Next to continue:

Step 5 - Choose the desired list from the Notification List pull-down menu and click Next:

Step 6 - Select users to include in the new user profile, and click Next:

Step 7 -  Select the server-side tools that will be available to the users included in the profile, and click Next:

Step 8 - Select the client-side tools that will be available to the users included in the profile, and click Next:

Step 9 - Select consoles to load for users at start-up, and click Next:

Step 10 -  Select predefined operations for the console used by the users in the profile, and click Next:

Step 11 - Specify console operations by users in the profile. Expand the Administration branch highlighted below:

Step 12 - Ensure that the Schedule Maintenance item in the Administration branch is NOT selected:

Step 13 - The wizard will show the new user profile instance you created ("No-Maint" in the example below). Click the Finish button to complete the new user profile setup:

Schedule Maintenance should now be disabled for the new user profile you have created.
