Smarts SAM/OI: Changes to Notif alert configuration are not saving to Smarts OI server

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


Cannot save changes made in Smarts SAM Notif to SNMP alert configuration for Smarts OI server

While attempting to configure SNMP alerts for Smarts OI server, can retrieve the running SNMP alert configuration but cannot save any changes to it.

The following entry is listed several times in the Audit log for the Smarts OI server:

There was a software error while processing an event: GC overhead limit exceeded
The error: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The above Audit log errors indicate a generic JVM outOfMem issue so that the memory allocation needs to be increased as specified in the following Resolution.

Resolution

To address this issue, increase the jmxMax value configured in the notif-init.asl file. This must be done in both  the /smarts/local/conf/ics and /smarts/local/conf/icoi directories or in the /smarts/local/conf/<server config directory>.
