What types of traps are processed by the Smarts SAM trap notifier?

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Resolution

The following trap types can be handled by the Smarts SAM Trap notifier:

• 4 - smTrapNotification (NL_NOTIFY)
• 7 - smTrapNotificationClear (NL_CLEAR)
• 98 - smTrapNotificationChange (NL_CHANGE) (see Note statement)
• 99 - smTrapNotificationDelete (NL_DELETE) (see Note statement)

Additional Information

While the trap notifier can handle NL_CHANGE and NL_DELETE notifications without error, it does not send these types. The notifiers by design do nothing except notify and clear. They are not intended to pass along all information throughout the life of an event.
