This article defines how LAG (Link Aggregation Group) and VPC (Virtual Port Channel) capabilities are used in Smarts IP and Smarts SAM map connectivity
Link Aggregation Group (LAG) Smarts IP has been enhanced with the functionality to map Etherchannel connections as network connections. This means that Smarts IP 9.1 and later versions can recognize multiple links between devices as a single consolidated channel redundancy groups. This is done using the Link Aggregation mechanism. Link Aggregation allows one or more ports to be aggregated together to form a Link Aggregation Group (LAG), so that a MAC Client can treat the Link Aggregation Group as if it were a single link.
This feature allows the detection of failure of logical groups. When there is a signal failure or a failure in all of the discrete connections, then a single Down problem is reported on the LAG Network Adapter. Discovery of peer port connectivity and AggregatePort connectivity in Cisco devices
Virtual Port Channel (VPC) Smarts IP supports the discovery of Virtual Port Channel (VPC). The Virtual Port Channel is represented as vAggregatePort in Smarts IP topology. vAggregatePort is a representation of the virtual port channel formed by the logical aggregation of Ethernet switch ports that belong to two different switches.
