HCX UI displays error "Site Pairing is not allowed to this Appliance Type" when adding a new Site Pair

Issue/Introduction

When attempting HCX Site Pairing, a user may run into the error "Error connecting to remote site. Site Pairing is not allowed to this Appliance Type."

Environment

Cause

This can be caused by the following reasons:

• • Deployed the wrong type of OVA.
  • Attempting to configure the site pair from HCX Cloud Manager to HCX Connector (cloud to onprem)

Resolution

HCX Cloud Manager to HCX Connector (cloud to onprem) site pairing is not supported.

The only supported site pairing options are:

• HCX Connector to HCX Cloud Manager (onprem to cloud)
• HCX Cloud Manager to HCX Cloud Manager (cloud to cloud)

Understanding HCX Sites:
"VMware vSphere-based sites can be either private (on-premises) or public clouds. HCX Connector sites serve as the source of mobility and network extension operations. HCX Cloud sites serve as the target of HCX operations, or as the source and target site in cloud-to-cloud configurations."
