Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • vCenter metric and properties data collection stopped after February 7th 2022, and shows no new data points.
  • The /storage/log/vcops/log/collector.log file shows errors similar to:
2022-02-15T22:42:23,955+0000 ERROR [Collector worker thread 19]  (60) com.integrien.adapter.vmware.VMwareAdapter.onCollect - Exception in onCollect call
com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: Permission to perform this operation was denied.

Cause

A VMware Aria Operations (SaaS) (formerly known as vRealize Operations Cloud) update on February 7th 2022 introduced OptionManager, which requires slightly higher permissions on the vCenter Object.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, provide the VMware Aria Operations (SaaS) service account user "Read-only" permissions on the vCenter object in the vCenter inventory.
  1. Log into the vCenter as an Administrative user.
  2. Navigate to Inventory.
  3. Select the vCenter object, then click the Permissions tab.
  4. Click Add, then select the Domain, set User to the VMware Aria Operations (SaaS) service account, then set the Role to Read-only.
  5. IMPORTANT: Uncheck Propagate to children.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Log into VMware Aria Operations (SaaS) as an administrator.
  8. Navigate to Data Sources > Integrations, then expand vCenter and find the vCenter adapter in question.
  9. Click the vertical ellipsis, then click Stop Collecting.
  10. Once the adapter is stopped, click the vertical ellipsis again, then click Start Collecting.
Data should start collecting normally after a few collections cycles (typically 5-10 minutes).
