Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


This impacts the applications ability to recover from a system or hardware crash as there would be no backup s available to recover from.


NCM backups will start running and then give an error similar to below:

/opt/voyence/tools/backup.pl -pg_dump: Error message from server: pg_dump: The command was: COPY voyence.cm_task_action (action_id, action_parent_id, action_data, action_type, action_desc, action_results, action_status, task_id, action_error_code, action_name, version, action_level) TO stdout;

TAR failed with FATAL error.

The important thing to note here is the table that is failing. In this case "cm_task_action"

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

This failure can be caused by a bad index of the primary key on the table in the error message.

Resolution

This error is usually not corrected by doing a simple reindex of the table.

To resolve this issue please open a service request and mention this article along with the full error from the backup.
