Overview Of Enabling debugging for the Java console for troubleshooting start-up issues

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how to enable debugging for the Java Console during start-up of NCM in order  to provide a real time view of error and debug messages.


These errors are stopping the Smarts NCM Application from logging in or starting. 

Environment

NCM 10.1.X

Resolution

The following explains how to enable the Java Console on the client running the NCM Application so you can have a real-time view of Java error and debug messages. This is helpful for real-time troubleshooting or as a simple method to view Smarts NCM-related Java messages.


IMPORTANT! Once troubleshooting is complete, the Java Console should be disabled as explained at the end of this article.
 
Windows:
  • Click on the Start button and then click on the Control Panel option.
  • In the Control Panel Search enter Java Control Panel.
  • Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.
     

Enable the Java Console in the Java Control Panel

  • In the Java Control Panel, click the Advanced tab.
  • Expand the Java console option.
  • Select Show Console and click OK. 
  • Upon enabling the Java Console, it will now open automatically when starting the NCM Application.
  • The logged Error and Debug messages can now be copied to a txt file to view quickly and easily or can be sent to Support for review. Simply click the Copy button, then open Notepad or a similar plain-text editor and paste.


For Disable the Java Console in the Java Control Panel please follow the below:

  • Once your troubleshooting activities are complete, you should disable the Java Console as follows:
    • In the Java Control Panel, click the Advanced tab.
    • Expand the Java console option.
    • Select Hide Console and click OK.
