Smarts NCM: Certain Devices are not pulling the vlan.dat file in NCM; Error: Device does not implement 'vlan database'; pull of vlan text failed

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




Smarts NCM Session log contains an exception similar to the following:

Smarts NCM console user interface displays an error similar to the following:

Pulling configuration file 'vlan text' for IDX 2712 with mechanism SSH
Device does not implement 'vlan database'; pull of vlan text failed!
 
Configuration file 'vlan text' for IDX 2712 completed with a warning with error code 'Unspecified Error' in 1 seconds

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

As shown in the above logs, Smarts NCM is sending a vlan database command to the device, but when device is trying to execute the command it is giving the above warning message. Because the command 'vlan database' is not implemented by the device, the vlan database command must be run by the user for the affected devices. However, there are certain Cisco IOS releases which do not support this command.
