This article addresses the following questions:
-
Can Smarts NCM discover the same device into two different networks?
-
Is it possible to get the same device to display in two different networks managed by Smarts NCM?
Smarts NCM cannot discover the same device into two networks, as the discovery operation can only discover a device once per device server. Once the device is discovered into a network, it becomes the primary network. Smarts NCM cannot discover the same device into a second or secondary network. However, you can have the same device display and be managed in a secondary network, but it must be managed manually. With this type of manual management, the same device could be added/displayed in multiple secondary networks. To manually add a device that has already been discovered in a primary network by Smarts NCM for management in a secondary network, do the following:
1. Go to Tools > System Administration.
2. Browse the tree to System Administration > Networks > [Target Secondary Network] > Devices.
3. Click the Manage button at bottom right. Apply a filter against Managed Devices. Specify additional characteristics about the device if you have many thousands of devices (IP addresses and Network Name has been removed from screen captures below):
4. Locate the desired device(s) and move them from the left list to the right list.
5. Click OK (or apply or manage) to Manage those devices into the secondary network.
