Smarts NCM: Smarts Adapter DSAPI connection fails for remote Report Advisor server

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




The following conditions, events or system behaviors may be observed with this issue:

• Smarts NCM DSAPI connection fails when configuring the adapter if Smarts NCM and the Integration Adapter are installed in one VM while the Report Advisor is in another VM as a remote host. 
• The following messages are seen in tomcat catalina.out log for Smarts NCM environment:

Loading transform file Smarts_Transform.xml
File streams closed
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

This issue occurs because of implementation limitations in the Integration Adapter. The implementation of the Smarts Adapter installed on the Smarts NCM server requires that the Report Advisor be installed locally and not remote.

Resolution

To address this issue, the Report Advisor must be installed locally to Smarts NCM and the Smarts Adapter.
