In some situations its possible for one Device server to have a lot more devices than another device server. To balance the load of devices per device server a reassignment of some devices to a different Device server may need to happen

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

During discovery the choice of Device Server a single DS may have been chosen more often than another causing it to have a higher load.

Resolution

To balance the load of the devices among all device servers do the following:
  1. Open the NCM GUI and click on Tools
  2. From Tools click on System Administration window, expand the Global tree menu and navigate to Device Servers.
  3. Select the name of the Device Server where the device you are looking for resides
  4. Click Devices
  1. From the listing of devices, select the device (or any number of devices) you want to reassign to another Device Server, then click Reassign.
  2. From the list of Device Servers displayed in the Device Servers window, highlight the appropriate Device Server you want your selected devices to be reassigned to, then click ok.
  1. You can now verify the reassignment to make sure your devices are now listed under the Deviec Server you selected as the Reassigned Device Server.

Additional Information

You must have at least two different Device Servers to reassign a device, or a number of devices, from one server to another.
