Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

This article explains how to disable Smarts NCM Network Advisor scheduled vulnerability reports to reduce overhead and processing load on the Smarts NCM Report Advisor server.

If Network Advisor is installed, it will automatically run Vulnerability Scans on devices in the Smarts NCM environment. This functionality is enabled by default and can create a large overhead on the Smarts NCM Report Advisor Server. Vulnerability scan jobs are not displayed under Job Manager in Scheduled Scans.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Resolution

Even though it appears there are no jobs running in Network Advisor, Vulnerability scans still run if not specifically disabled. To disable Network Advisor vulnerability scans, do the following:
  1. Log into Smarts NCM Report Advisor.
  2. In the top right corner, select Network Advisor
  3. In the left column, select "Vulnerability Scans".
  4. In the main screen search section, search for devices that have been installed to your network. An effective way to do this is to search by device class. You can also select all the devices by leaving the field blank and executing a search.
  5. Select the vulnerability you wish to disable, or you can click on the Select all box to select everything on the page.
  6. On the right side of the page, select the "Disable" icon. This is the first "x" from left to right as shown in the following example:

  1. Click "Disable" before moving on to the next page.
  2. The Vulnerability scan functionality for the selected devices is now disabled. Once this is done, there is no need to restart any services.
