Smarts NCM: Unable to run Regex on a virtual device; network level data field won't resolve.

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:


Running a Regex test on a NCM virtual device in a Workspace that is located under a specific network, does not resolve that specific network level data field variable.

You will notice the Virtual lanswitch located under Workspaces which is in the "Test1" network.

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM

Cause

The cause for this is because device attributes are different from network data fields. If you want datafields for devices, then they are supposed to chose Device while creating data fields.

Resolution

This is working as designed and we treat them separately. Some people believe since devices are part of the network, that network data fields to be applicable for the device data fields, but NCM isn't designed in that way.
