This issue occurs if the virtual machine bundle is moved to a different location or the permissions on Mac has changed.
To resolve this issue, restore the correct permissions on the virtual machine bundle.
To restore the correct permissions on the virtual machine bundle:
- Convert the virtual machine bundle to a folder by removing the .vmwarevm extension, so that you can modify its contents. For more information, see the Additional Information section of Contents of the virtual machine bundle in Fusion (1021016).
- Close the Get Info window, if it's still open.
- Ctrl+click the folder and select Get Info to re-open the Get Info window. An updated window opens.
- Under Sharing & Permissions, ensure that your username is present. If not, click the + button and add your username.
- Ensure that the Read & Write permission for your username is selected. If not, select the Read & Write permission for your username from the dropdown.
Note: If the virtual machine is shared with other users, change the permissions for Everyone to Read & Write.
- Click the action menu (it has an icon of a gear) located at the bottom of the window and click Apply to enclosed items.
Note: Be sure to re-add the .vmwarevm extension to the virtual machine bundle to avoid accidental data loss.
- Close the Get Info window.
