Issue/Introduction

Title: Alarm for pool_lease_allocation_failed
Event ID: pool_lease_allocation_failed

Alarm Description

  • Purpose: To indicate there are no free IP addresses in a DHCP pool.
  • Impact: In this case, the virtual machine intended for network connection will receive an Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) and won't obtain a legitimate IP address from the DHCP server.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

Steps to Resolve
For 4.2.0 and higher

Recommended Action:

Compare the number of IPs of the DHCP pool to the number of the active VMs. Consider reducing the lease time on the DHCP server configuration if the number of VMs are less than the number of active leases. Also, consider expanding the pool range for the DHCP server by the below procedure:

From your browser, log in with admin privileges to an NSX Manager at https://nsx-manager-ip-address.

    1. Select Networking > Segments.
    2. Find the segment where you want to configure the DHCP service. Next to the segment name, click …,
    3. Then click Edit.
    4. Click EDIT DHCP Config.
    5. Enlarge the DHCP range or add a new DHCP range.
    6. Click Apply.
