Adding a ESXi host to a cluster fails if the hosts in the cluster are detached from a VDS

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
The Add host operation fails at Validate NSX-T spec for NVDS and VDS mappings when the host is detached from the VDS

Cause

During cluster expansion, the host being added is validated against a healthy host existing in the cluster to make sure that the cluster is homogeneous even after the expansion. A ESXi host disconnected from the VDS will fail to get vmnic configuration of that host.

Resolution

To resolve this issue re-attach the disconnected hosts to the VDS and retry the Add Host operation.
