Minimum required permissions for Storage vMotion

Issue/Introduction

This article provides the minimum required permissions to perform a Storage vMotion operation.

Resolution

These permissions are required to perform Storage vMotion from the Remote Command Line Interface (RCLI):

• Resource > Migrate
• Resource > Relocate
• Datastore > Allocate Space

These permissions must be assigned at the virtual machine level.

 

Notes:

• These permissions do not provide permission to perform other actions.
• A user with these permissions also has the read only permission that is provided by any specified permission group.
