Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Import virtual machine from vCenter into Cloud Director fails
  • Within log reviews, the provider might see the following error:
    • Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
       at com.vmware.vcloud.inventory.dao.impl.VirtualMachineRTDaoImpl.getVmModelVersionNumberByCloudUuid(VirtualMachineRTDaoImpl.java:59)
  • While importing VM from vCenter to Cloud Director, VM is not visible in 'import from vCenter' section in the Cloud Director. 

     



Environment

  VMware Cloud Director 10.4
  VMware Cloud Director 10.5 

Cause

This is caused by a cloud.uuid property being set on the virtual machine in vCenter.

Resolution

This is a Known Issue affecting VMware Cloud Director version 10.x

Below is the Workaround:
Note: Check with backup software to ensure the cloud.uuid value is not needed.
Note: Removing the cloud.uuid value is required for the VM to be in a powered off state. 

Before importing into Cloud Director:
  1. Login to vCenter
  2. Edit Settings on the virtual machine to import
  3. Choose the VM Options
  4. Expand the Advanced
  5. Choose the Edit Configuration
  6. Filter the name for cloud.uuid
  7. Remove the value
  8. Click OK
  9. Click OK

The issue is recently witnessed in Cloud Director 10.5 Build 22080476
