Issue/Introduction

VMware Lab Platform vApp Networks

vApp networks allow virtual machines to communicate with each other or by connecting to an organization's virtual data center network to virtual machines in other vApps.

Every vApp contains a vApp network. The network is created when the vApp is deployed and deleted when the vApp is undeployed.

The vApp network can be nat-ed to an Organization VDC Network, (Default behavior of Lab builder) in order to provide internet access to the VMs in a particular vApp.

You can add networks of different types to a vApp to address multiple networking scenarios.

Virtual machines in the vApp can connect to the networks that are available in a vApp. If you want to connect a virtual machine to a different network, you must first add this network to the vApp.

Symptoms:
  • Virtual machines fail to connect to the internet
  • There is no network connectivity between virtual machines

Resolution

Verify that the following settings are correct

  • The DHCP service should be enabled in vCD, Go to vApps>Details>Networks>SelectThe Network>IP Management>DHCP
  • The vApp network should be connected to an external network, Go to vApps>Details>Networks>SelectThe Network>General>Edit>Connection
  • The firewall service should be enabled, Go to vApps>Details>Networks>SelectThe Network>Services>Edit
  • The NAT service should be enabled, Go to vApps>Details>Networks>SelectThe Network>Services>Edit
  • The NAT Type should be set to Port Forwarding, Go to vApps>Details>Networks>SelectThe Network>General>Edit>NAT Type
  • Make sure that every VM is connected to the vApp network, Go to vApps>Details>SelectTheVM>Hardware>NICS
  •
