[VMC on AWS] Virtual Machine Migration fails after the Switchover with an error: Creating Virtual Machine Image on the Target Side Failed

Issue/Introduction

Provides details about how to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Symptoms:
Customer is unable to migrate the Virtual Machine. It impacts all Migrations types (vMotion, Bulk , RAV).
You see this error:
"Creating Virtual Machine Image on the Target Side Failed "

When checking the files for the VM on target side  you see the VMX file is 0 kb in size.

Cause

By default, the maximum supported size of the nvram file in the hbrconfig file is 6 GB. This issue occurs if the nvram file size exceeds 6 GB for the migrating virtual machine.
 
 
 

Resolution

Engage VMware Support - Creating and managing Broadcom support cases
Include the following information:

  • Target SDDC ID
  • Source & Target HCX Versions
  • Name of the VMs which are facing the migration error
  • Screenshot of the error faced during switchover phase
