Problem powering on 64bit guests on a host with an Intel EM64 VT-Capable processor

Issue/Introduction

You are experiencing these issues when running the Workstation Processor Check utility for 64bit compatibility on a host with an Intel EM64 VT-capable processor:

• Workstation Processor Check utility indicates that the processor is supported for 64bit virtual machines
• Unable to power on a 64bit virtual machine

Resolution

In EM64 VT-capable processors, VT functionality can be disabled through the BIOS. The Workstation Processor Check utility, however, cannot read the appropriate model-specific register (MSR) to detect that VT functionality has been disabled.

To resolve this issue, verify that VT functionality is enabled by checking the Advanced CPU settings in the host's BIOS.
