Issue/Introduction

SD-WAN Edge in 5.0.x release may not learn IPv6 routes from hub sites after rebooting.

Environment

VMware SD-WAN 5.0.0 and  5.0.1

Cause

This issue is caused by Issue #130674.

IPv6 remote routes exchange is skipped when the only physical interfaces configured with IPv6 are disconnected during boot up. Even after the edge is up and the interfaces are connected, the edge is still not able to learn the IPv6 routes. This may occur during boot-up sequences.

Resolution

Upgrade the SD-WAN Edge to Release 5.0.2

The fix will also be available in 5.2.3 and 6.0.0, though the dates for when each of those releases will be available are still not available.

Workaround:

  • Enabling IPv6 loopback can avoid the issue. Using 5.2 release can also minimize the downtime by Self-Healing Routing. To make Self-Healing Routing work, all Hub, Spoke, and VCG need to upgrade to 5.2.
