Issue/Introduction

When the User tries to log in, a notification is displayed with error "FAILED TO CREATE TUN INTERFACE" or  "Failed to perform - Logout #103".

From the logs we can see the User fails to set IPv6 Address:

Environment

All VMware Velocloud SD-Access

Cause

When IPv6 is turned off at the registry level, the SD-WAN Client Users cannot log in.
IPv6 is mandatory for the Clients to install successfully but in some cases it is disabled due to specific reasons.

Resolution

Enable IPv6 at the Registry Level. Follow the steps mentioned in the link below:

Guidance for configuring IPv6 in Windows for advanced users

Workaround:

Note: Applying the workaround requires a reboot of the machine.

If IPv6 needs to remain disabled, you can perform the following workaround:

Create an environment variable "ANANDA_NO_IPV6" and set to "TRUE":

  1. Right click the Windows icon on the Windows Taskbar and select System.
  2. Under Related Settings in the Settings Window, select Advanced system settings.
  3. On the Advanced Tab, click Environment Variables.
  4. Under System Variables click on New and create the new variable as below, and then click on OK.
  5. Reboot the machine.

Below is an example of how it should look:

NOTE: Enabling IPv6 in the Networking Settings at the Interface Level will not work, if it is disabled at the Registry Level.

Additional Information

To confirm if IPv6 is disabled:

a- Type regedit in the search box on the taskbar to go to the Registry Editor.
b- Go to this location: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\"
c- Check the Value of "DisabledComponents":

Min Value: 0x00 (default value)
Max Value: 0xFF (IPv6 disabled)
