Issue/Introduction

3rd party SNMP monitoring tools will show incorrect values for Latency, Jitter, and Packet Loss when compared to Orchestrator data.

Environment

VMware SD-WAN

Cause

In the VMware SD-WAN SNMP MIB library, Latency, Jitter, and Packet Loss are defined as Counter64 which is not appropriate for these types. Counters should be used for data types that are ever increasing values and which never reset in SNMP like bytes Tx/Rx. In contrast, latency, jitter, and packet loss do not have ever increasing values but dynamically adjusted values and should not use counters.

Resolution

The fix for this issue is available in the following Edge software releases:
  • 4.3.1, starting with release R431-20211208-GA
  • 4.5.0, starting with release R450-20210922-GA
  • 4.5.1, starting with release R451-20220513-GA
  • 5.1.0.0, starting with release R5100-20221204-GA
