Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on the lack of support of Tar Tools and OSPs for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8, CentOS 8, Oracle Linux 8, SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLE) 15, Ubuntu 18.04 and newer operating systems.

Resolution

The Tar installer for VMware Tools and OSPs are not supported for the Linux distributions RHEL 8, CentOS 8, Oracle Linux 8, SLE 15, Ubuntu 18.04 and newer releases of RHEL, SLE and Ubuntu.

VMware recommends to install OS vendor provided open-vm-tools in these OSes. For more information, see:
