When attempt to update ESXi host, it may fail. with [InstallationError] The pending transaction requires XXX MB free space, however the maximum supported size is XXX MB.

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Upgrade fails with below log:

VIB installation failed, Return:1 Out: [InstallationError] VMware_locker_tools-light_11.3.5.18557794-19193900: VIB tools-light requires 208 MB free space in the locker partition to be safely installed, however the partition only has 199 MB available. Please clean up the locker partition and retry the transaction.

 

 

 

Cause

When attempt to update ESXi host it fails

Resolution

Workaround:

After acknowledging customer approval and to resolve this issue we performed the following workaround steps:

1. Logon to the ESXi host with SSH
2. Rename the /store folder: # mv /store /store.old
3. Remove the /store.old folder: # rm -rf store.old
4. Retry the ESXI Upgrade

Issue resolved successfully and ESXI Upgrade was completed.

The host returns esxupdate error code:15" error when remediating an ESXi 5.x and 6.x host (2030665)
