Resolution

Log Collection

You can find all Distributed Execution Manager (DEM) logs in the DEM_WorkerService_All.log file and the DEM_WorkerService_Error.log (error log) file.
  1. Log into the machine where DEM is installed.
  2. Navigate to <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\vCAC\Distributed Execution Manager\DEM\Logs.
You can find the Server logs in the All.log file and Error.log file.
  1. Log into the machine where the server is installed
  2. Navigate to <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\vCAC\Server\Logs.
You can find the VRM Agent (vSphere) in the vSphereAgent.log file.
  1. Log into the machine where the VRMAgent is installed.
  2. Navigate to <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\vCAC\vCenter\<agent name>\Logs.

For more information, see:

Notes:
  • In scale deployments, the DEMs can be installed on different machines.
  • The log files are rolled over and zipped with timestamp when they cross 25MB.
  • Only 25 archived files are stored and the older files are deleted periodically.

Troubleshooting

There are three important logs in the vCAC IaaS system you must view to analyze and troubleshoot issues.

Recent events:

  • Monitoring logs
  • Audit logs
  • Workflow History - To know more about workflow status

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Track issues with MMS instance name and identifier which is a guid.
  • The MMS ID (guid) is used in NSX for tracking entities.
  • To find the MMS ID, go to audit log audit log and find the guid against the instance.
  • You can export all the logs to various file formats such as PDF, XLS, XLSX, CSV and RTF.
  • Most of the analysis can be done from the preceding logs.
  • Monitoring logs also gives detailed stack trace for errors.
  • If vRealize Orchestrator workflow fails, use the vRO REST APIs along with vRO client (GUI) to investigate workflow executions.
  • If error originates from NSX, looking at NSX logs should help. Download the NSX logs from NSX manager appliance UI. For more information, see Collecting diagnostic information for VMware NSX for vSphere 6.x (2074678).
