Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • You cannot scan VM's running Linux OS for Virtual Hardware upgrades.
  • Running VMware Tools 10.1.0 or higher on Linux Virtual Machines
  • When scanning Linux OS VM's for Virtual Hardware upgrades, you see the error in Webclient similar to:
The operation is not supported on the object.
  • The /storage/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server-log4cpp.log file contains errors when scanning Linux VM's for Virtual Hardware upgrades similar to:
Task execution has failed: vmodl.fault.NotSupported




Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Tools 10.1.0 and later on Linux Virtual Machines. This issue is being actively investigated. Currently, there is no resolution.
