Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to assist you in alleviating a database error that may prevent collection. It also provides steps for mitigating a database that does not prevent data collection.

Symptoms:
  • Cannot connect to database
  • An error appears indicating that the database cannot be opened:

Module = VMware Capacity Planner Data Manager Function = OpenDatabase (C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Capacity Planner\AOGCapPlan.mdb) Source = Microsoft JET Database Engine Error = Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. (-2147467259:0:5003049)

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Do not skip a step.

  1. Check that an external or third-party piece of software is not interfering with database access. For more information, see An error is randomly seen stating that the database cannot be opened (1001763).

  2. Verify that the host server has the correct components and component version required to run Capacity Planner. For more information, see Components and versions required to run Capacity Planner (1005546).

  3. Verify that you do not have too many systems enabled for the collection task.

  4. Check the list of known issues that may cause database errors. For more information, see Known issues causing Collector failure (1005550).

  5. Attempt to repair the database file. For more information, see Repairing the Capacity Planner Collector's Database (8415731).

Note: If your problem still exists after trying the steps in this article, file a Support Request with VMware Support and note this Knowledge Base article ID (1005545) in the problem description. For more information, see Filing a Support Request in Customer Connect (2006985).
