Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • You are unable to edit endpoints.conf.
  • You are using a VI editor.
  • When editing /etc/vmware/rhttpproxy/endpoints.conf in a VI editor, you see the error similar to:

    Operation not permitted

Resolution

This issue is resolved in ESXi 5.5 Update 2, available on VMware Downloads. For more information, see the VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 Release Notes.

If updating to this version is not an option, follow the workaround.

To work around this issue and ensure your changes are reflected, copy /etc/vmware/rhttpproxy/endpoints.conf to a temporary location. Edit the file, then copy the file back to /etc/vmware/rhttpproxy/endpoints.conf.

Note: When copied to another location, you can edit endpoints.conf using a VI editor.
