Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Do not skip a step.
- Confirm that there is proper network connectivity between the source server, vCenter Converter, and the destination. For more information, see Verifying and troubleshooting networking connections that may cause vCenter Converter to fail (1006607).
- Verify that vCenter Converter can connect to the source server to install the Converter Agent. For more information, see vCenter Converter Agent fails to install due to a connection error (1001344).
- Ensure that the Converter Agent is correctly installed and running. For more information, see Ensuring proper installation of vCenter Converter and functionality of the Converter Agent (1006603).
- Verify that the failure is not due to an operating system problem on the source server. For more information, see Troubleshooting damaged operating system components that can cause conversion failures with vCenter Converter (1006489).
- If you have teamed NICs on your vCenter Server, ESX/ESXi hosts, and your source system, ensure that the NIC team is working properly. VMware Converter may be unable to determine the target and/or source server if the NIC team has failed over or is not communicating. For help troubleshooting this issue, see NIC team failover, failback, or vMotion results in loss of network connectivity (1003969).
- If the source is a physical blade server, verify that the console devices are not directed at the blade during conversion. For more information, see Converting a physical blade server with vCenter Converter fails (1000508)
