Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • SNMP traps are frequently and irregularly generated when using the vCenter Server 6.0.
  • The Task and Events in vCenter Server display:

    Alarm 'Health status changed alarm' on Datacenters triggered by event xxxxx 'vmware-vpostgres status changed from gray to green

  • There is an alarm triggered with this description:

    vmware-vpostgres status changed from green to gray

  • The traps look similar to:

    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.xxxx.x.x.xxx.x = STRING: "alarm.HealthStatusChangedAlarm - Event: Status change (xxxxx)
    Summary: vmware-vpostgres status changed from green to gray
    Date: MM/DD/YY xx:xx:xx
    Arguments:
    componentId = vmware-vpostgres
    componentName = vmware-vpostgres
  • In the /var/log/vmware/sca/sca.log file, or C:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\logs\sca\sca.log file, you see entries similar to:

    <YYYY-MM-DD>T<time> [pool-x-thread-xx WARN com.vmware.sca.health.HealthStatusRequest] readHealthStatusFromFile: File has expired data; service:'vmware-vpostgres', file:/etc/vmware-sca/health/vmware-postgres-health-status.xml, expired:<YYYY-MM-DD>T<time>, now:<YYYY-MM-DD>T<time>

    • This issue occurs in both the VMware vCenter Server Appliance and VMware vCenter Server installed on Windows.
