Issue/Introduction

This articles details an issue with the OVF Tool 4.3.0 when using the '--overwrite' function.

Symptoms:
Running the OVF Tool 4.3.0 with the '--overwrite' option fails to replace existing files in the destination location.

Cause

The overwrite functions fails due to the virtual machine file size. If the file size is greater than 2GB the files in the destination location will not be overwritten, instead a new file will be created.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 6.7 Update 2, available at VMware Downloads.

Workaround:
Use OVF Tool 4.0.0 to perform the export and overwrite the destination files.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
As the destination files are not overwritten, the conversion can result in duplicating files of larger sizes thereby comsuming all available storage.
