Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After applying the host profile successfully on the ESXi 5.1 Update 1b host , host profile shows as non compliant.
  • You see the error:

    Did not find mapping for ip x.x.x.x in /etc/hosts file on the host


Cause

Resolution

This issue is resolved in ESXi 5.5 Update 2, available at VMware downloads.

To work around this issue, disable the hosts file.
To disable the hosts file:
  1. Create the host profile.
  2. Right click on the profile and click Enable/Disable profile configuration.
  3. Disable hosts file settings, located at /etc/, click OK and apply the profile.
