Installing vCenter Single Sign-On fails when installing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package prerequisite with the error: Error Code 3010

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Installation of vCenter Single Sign-On fails (SSO)
• Installing vCenter Single Sign-On fails when installing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package prerequisite
• Cannot install vCenter Single Sign-On 5.5 on a Windows 2012 system
• When the SSO installer is loading, you see the error:
  
  There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
  
  
• The %temp%vim.sso-msi.log file contains entries similar to:

  Note:
• returned actual error code 3010, means the requested operation is successful. Changes are not effective until the system is rebooted.
• The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.

Cause

This issue occurs when the system is pending a reboot from Windows Updates or another application installation.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3. For more information, see VMware vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3 Release Notes. Available at VMware Downloads.

To work around this issue, reboot the system then retry installing vCenter Single Sign-On 5.5.

Note: In some cases, you need to run the install while logged in as the local Administrator user.
