Issue/Introduction

  • VMware NSX with Service Insertion
  • IP addresses from static IP pool are released for deployed Service VMs
  • SVM deployment may remain in failed state for 5-10 minutes and recovers automatically after IP allocation is successful.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x
VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.x

Cause

If a service VM is powered off and EAM service is restarted on VC then EAM calls post provisioning and post power on hooks even for a deployed service VM. This results in release of allocated IP from static IP pool.

Resolution

There is no resolution to this issue.

EAM should not be restarted if SVMs are powered off.

Workaround:

If SVMs need to be powered off and EAM service is restarted:

    1. Additional IPs can be provisioned in advance in the IP pool so that SVM network configuration happens smoothly.
    2. If additional IPs are not available, the service deployment may fail initially, but will recover automatically after 5-10 minutes.
