What is the Smarts IP VirtualBridgedVia relationship and how is it created?

The VirtualBridgedVia relationship is used by Smarts IP to denote connection between the Port and MAC Address of a Virtual Machine Host. The VirtualBridgedVia or VirtualBridge relationship is created in two scenarios:
  • Case 1: When a Switch and VirtualMachine are discovered in IP and there is a connection between Switch Port and VM Host.

  • Case 2: There is a connection between Switch and Physical Host machine, but only Switch is discovered in IP.

In both of the above cases, the Port VirtualBridges MAC relationship is created in Smarts IP.

Additional Information

The tpmgr-param.conf file under BASEDIR\conf\discovery has information on this:

# VirtualMACPattern
# VirtualMAC patterns that is used in makeBridgedMAC call to populate the Port->VirtualBridges relationship.
# These includeHSRP,VRRP virtual MAC and VMWare registered MAC pattern#

The dot1Bridge MIB (dot1dTpFdbAddress) is used to get this information.
