Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

The format being used for the command to start the notifier is:  BASEDIR/smarts/bin/sm_notify mail --conf=<conf file name>

Resolution

The correct format to use to start the mail notifier using the --conf=<conf file name> option is:  BASEDIR/smarts/bin/sm_notify --conf=<conf file name> mail

Additional Information

This is true for all notifiers (mail, trap, file, and script).  The type of the notifier should be the last argument passed on the command line as shown in the fix above.
