Ionix NPM/Smarts NPM BGP manager is reporting false BGPSession::Disconnected alerts even though the BGP sessions are administratively up and operating correctly on the device
Ionix NPM/Smarts NPM is generating false BGPSession::Disconnected alerts which are present all the time and only clear on re-discovery of the device after which point the Re-Notify

Underlying BGPProtocolEndpoint object attributes in Ionix NPM/Smarts NPM have a value of UNKOWN:

PeerAdminStatus  UNKOWN
PeerState  UNKNOWN



SNMP trace debug for Ionix NPM/Smarts NPM environment shows NULL/noSuchInstance values returned for the OIDs bgpPeerState .1.3.6.1.2.1.15.3.1.2 and bgpPeerAdminStatus .1.3.6.1.2.1.15.3.1.3 as in the following example:

  356:        VarBind -> SEQUENCE (0x30), 19 bytes:
  358:          OBJ-ID (0x06), 15 bytes == ".1.3.6.1.2.1.15.3.1.2.<index>"

Resolution

This is the result of a problem in the device's SNMP agent with is causing NULL/noSuchInstance values to be returned for these OIDs. To resolve this, you will need to contact the device vendor support.
