Issue/Introduction

This Article talks about VCH deployment in a folder nested environment.

Symptoms:
Clusters nested within folders are not selectable in VCH creation wizard.
  1. When you try to deploy VCH via HTML 5 client in a nested environment where hosts are nested under folders.
  2. The compute capacity screen will not show Cluster / Hosts under the Compute resource selector.
  3. However if you move the cluster / hosts out of the Folders, the compute capacity allows to select the cluster / hosts on compute resource selector.

Environment

VMware vSphere Integrated Containers 1.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the environment is nested within folders

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vSphere Integrated Containers when deployed in a folder Nested Environment. There is currently no resolution but a workaround.

Workaround:
To resolve this issue apply the workaround below:
  • Use the vic-machine-create command to handle the folders.
  • Currently the HTML 5 Plug-in does not handle the nested environment and hence resource tree selector shows blank.
