[VMC on AWS] vCenter task encounters error "An error occurred while downloading depot metadata" every 24 hours

Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on how to deal with the error in "Download patch definitions" task.

Symptoms:

We are seeing an error in "Download patch definitions" task on vCenter every 24 hours.

Error stack:
"An error occurred while downloading depot metadata from https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml."

 

Cause

By default, vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) automatically download from VMware online depots daily. When the vCenter does not have internet access, daily sync fails.

Resolution

This error can be ignored. The actual fix to ensure that all deployed SDDCs do not come with a scheduled task to connect to the depot may come out in a future release.

Impact/Risks:

There is no impact to customers besides the annoying failed task appearing on the vCenter every 24 hours.
