VxRail -- Locate VxRail Appliance Serial Number

Issue/Introduction

This KB discusses how to find the serial number of the VxRail Appliance to open a case with Dell VxRail support.

Environment

VMware vSAN 6.x
VMware vSAN 7.0.x
VMware vSAN 8.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Resolution

General:

• At the front of the VxRail Appliance, in the upper right corner of the chassis, locate the appliance luggage tag.
• Pull out the blue-tabbed luggage tag.
• Locate the appliance serial number label on the pull-out tag.
• The PSNT is the 14-digit number located on front edge of the luggage tag.
• When a VxRail is installed it creates a local datastore. The first part of the datastore name is the Service Tag
• Via SSH/Putty session, issue the following command: df -h

Example output:

You can also run the following command /opt/vxrail/tools/ipmitool fru print 17 from any host in the cluster.
