Cause

The vSAN release catalog maintains information about available releases, preferred order for releases, and critical patches needed for each release. This alarm is triggered when the age of the vSAN Release Catalog used for vSAN build recommendation is outdated.

This warning is expected when the database is older than 90 or 180 days respectively. vSAN release catalog will be updated when there are new releases or critical patches.

Resolution

vSAN release catalog provides critical information to vSAN build recommendation engine. Release catalog gets updated new releases or critical patches. It is important to keep the local copy up-to-date.

Follow the below steps to update the release catalog file:

  • Check and restore internet connectivity to ensure that the release catalog can be accessed. If the vCenter does not have an internet connection, you can upload the vSAN release catalog directly to the vCenter Server. In the "vSphere Client, click Cluster > Monitor > vSAN > Skyline Health > vSAN release catalog up-to-date" > Dropdown icon click the "Update From File or Select vCenter Server > Configure > vSAN > Update > Release catalog > Update from file"

The vSAN release catalog can be downloaded here. (Right click "Save as link" or "Save as file" depending on browser/version)

  • Retest the health by navigating to the "vCenter UI > vSAN Cluster > Monitor > Skyline health > Retest"
