Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Creating a VM with the vSAN default policy "virtual SAN may fail and report as "Datastore does not match current VM policy"
  • vSAN datastore may be listed in "incompatible" datastore during creation

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue,

1. Restart the VMware Profile Driven service from services.msc on Windows based vCenter or run the command on vCenter appliance:

service-control --restart vmware-sps

2. Resync the storage providers from the Web client by doing the following:
  • Select the vCenter in the left pane
  • Select the Manage/Configure tab
  • Select Storage providers
  • Click on  Synchronize Storage Providers, the icon that looks like a stack of disks with the circular red arrows.

If required you can restart the vSAN VPD using the below command on all the hosts and then resync the providers from the Web Client.

/etc/init.d/vsanvpd restart

Important: This command only works for ESXi versions 6.5 and earlier, vSANvpd service is not available in ESXi 6.7 or above
