Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
- Skyline health in vCenter shows a hardware compatibility warning for hosts in a vSAN cluster, saying "NVMe device can be identified"
- The affected hosts are members of a vSAN cluster
- The SSDs installed in the hosts are Samsung PM1725b Series MZPLL3T2HAJQ-00005

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x
VMware vSAN 7.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the model number of the Samsung SSDs does not match the identification string for these devices in the VMware compatibility guide

Resolution

Upgrade vCenter/ESXi to version 7.0U3l or higher or 8.0U1 or higher.

Workaround:
As a workaround, if an upgrade is not possible please take the following steps:
- Silence the Skyline Health Alarm
- Review the vSAN VCG

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
This does not indicate any supportability issue, it is just an error in the recognition mechanism. The device is fully supported, as can be seen in the VMware compatibility matrix.
