Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
When vCenter is 7.0/7.0P1 but ESXi hosts are in mixed mode with versions 7.0/7.0 P1 + 7.0 U1, the option on UI to enable the file service is greyed out, and enabling the file service through the API will also fail.
When vCenter is 7.0/7.0 P1 but ESXi hosts are 7.0U1, it will pick 7.0 U1 OVF instead of the compatible 7.0 OVF to deploy FSVM in file service enablement. This may cause some incompatible issues when using file service.
Environment
VMware vSAN 7.0.x
Cause
File service in mixed mode is only supported in vSAN 7.0 U1 and later.
Resolution
VMware recommend you update your vCenter to 7.0U1 if you want to use the vSAN File Service with 7.0U1 ESXi hosts in your cluster.
